ABOUT / THE IIC

The Italian Cultural Institute of Tirana was born in 1981 and for about ten years it worked as a simple Cultural Office of the Italian Embassy. In this period IT works in the cultural field in a restricted way, maintaining almost exclusively relations with the Department of Culture of the Albanian Foreign Ministry. In addition to the organization of several exhibitions, the office has hosted Italian language courses for Albanian students, their enrollment in Italian universities, the issue of academic titles and scholarships, and so on. So over the years, the Institute's activity has been increasing not only in the academic field, but also in the organization of events, until 1999, when the simple Embassy Office assumed the functions of a true Institute of Culture, with its own headquarters.
