Tangier Jazz Festival featuring Filomena Campus

(September 5, 2017) "I can not wait to play in Morocco in September". She announced it a few days ago from her Facebook page and now she can start counting down: the jazz vocalist, composer and theatrical director Filomena Campus prepares for her concert in Tangier. The event, scheduled for September 17 at the Palazzo delle Istituzioni italiane, was organized by Fondation Lorin of Tangier in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat and the Embassy of Italy. It is part of the Jazz Festival of Tangier - Tanjazz, which will start on September 14 and will close on 17th. Filomena Campus Quartet jazz concert will feature in addition to the singer, Steve Lodder (piano), Ettore Fioravanti (drums) and Francesco Pierotti (double bass). Filomena Campus has been living in London since 2001. In the field of experimental jazz and free improvisation, she collaborated with internationally renowned musicians such as Paolo Fresu, Evan Parker, Kenny Wheeler, Antonello Salis, Orphy Robinson, Guy Barker, Jean Toussaint, Byron Wallen, Cleveland Watkiss, Huw Warren, Martin France, Antonio Forcione, Andreas Schmidt, Tony Kofi and the London Improvisers Orchestra, with which she recorded the Improvisations For George Riste live album.

ABOUT / THE QUARTET

In 2010 Campus founded the Filomena Campus Quartet with which she recorded the album Jester Of Jazz, with pianist Steve Lodder, double bassist Dudley Phillips and with Jean Toussaint (sax) and Rowland Sutherland (flute) as special guests. Drummers Martin France and Rod Youngs joined the band in 2012. The music is from Lodder and Phillips, apart from a classic Sardinian 'No Potho Reposare' by Phillips and another piece by Berlin pianist Andreas Schmidt, Yoridori Midori. Some Filomena Campus lyrics are inspired by Franca Rame, who collaborated on the lyrics for 'Queen of Clowns' dedicated to her, as well as some poems by Stefano Benni and Maria Carta.
