The number of families having to rely on Franciscan canteens to survive has climbed by 79% since 2019, and the trend is worse (in 2021 + 8% compared to 2020; in 2022 + 18% compared to 2021). This is the conclusion of Antoniano's research of the 18 Franciscan buildings of the "Operazione Pane" network spread around the country. By 2022, 1,400 families had already visited the network's Franciscan canteens (778 in 2019, 1,210 in 2020, 1,309 in 2021). According to the latest ISTAT Italy 2022 Report, over 1.9 million households (7.5% of the total) and approximately 5.6 million people (9.4%) lived in absolute poverty in 2021.
