Researchers from Sicily on mission to Central America

(1 march 2017) Unipa (University of Palermo), Sicily and El Salvador in collaboration in the name of research and cooperation. A pool of researchers from Unipa are guided by Giuseppe Giunta, professor of "Structural Geology" and former docent of DiSTeM of Unipa in Central America where he is carrying out a new Italian collaborative project for development on "areas prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and floods" according to a statement on the University's website. The project involves El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and other Central American countries. The research project falls under the University's Inter-University International Cooperation scheme and the Italian-Central American network's natural disaster analysis and risk assessment that connects Unipa with UES University of San Salvador in El Salvador, San Carlos University in Guatemala City, UNAN in Managua, Nicaragua, and UNAH in Honduras. The dean of the University of Palermo, Fabrizio Micari, will join the research expedition later this week for a few days. (red)


THE AGREEMENT

The University of Palermo and the Universidad de El Salvador have a longstanding agreement for academic, scientific, and cultural collaboration that entails reciprocal recognition of degrees and aims to train specialists in the assessment and management of risk through further practical and scientific training and education of graduates in the fields of geology, environment, agriculture, civil and environmental engineering.
