Italian cinema focusing on women’s cinema

(14 March, 2017) "Scusate se esisto" (Do You See Me?) is a film by Riccardo Milani (2014) starring Paola Cortellesi, Raoul Bova, Lunetta Savino and Marco Bocci. Cortellesi stars in the role of a talented architect and "a returning brain” to Italy. Milani stars in the role of Serena who comes from a village in Abruzzo and received her degree in architecture with honours and a Master’s degree, and speaks several foreign languages. She works in London, where her talent and dedication are adequately appreciated. But feeling homesick, Serena decides to return to her hometown, Rome, where she cannot find a job comparable to the one held in England. She gets working three jobs that she is overqualified for (interior designer, designer of funeral chapels for the rich, and a waitress in an upscale restaurant). The film will be screened Monday, March 20 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens (Odos Patission, 47) which has organised a film festival that focuses on women in cinema during the month of March which began on the 6th with the screening of the film "The chair of Happiness" (C. Mazzacurati, 2014). The last screening will be on April 3rd with "L’Oriana" (M.Turco, 2015). All films are screened in Italian with English subtitles at 19:00. Admission is free. (PO / red)

FEMALE EXPRESSION AND REINVENTION

The film festival the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens explores the female perspective on the verge of change and draws attention to the many ways in which women express and reinvent themselves even in the most critical circumstances. All the protagonists of the films in this festival are at a decisive moment in their lives that proves to be a new starting point from which they pioneer a new way of living amongst others.
