University: From Udine to Iraqi Kurdistan in the name of cooperation

(27 March 2017) The University of Udine and Nawroz University of Dohuk have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a lasting collaboration in teaching, research and exchange of students and faculty. The memorandum was signed recently at Palazzo Florio in Udine, the main University building by the two heads of the universities, Alberto De Toni and Amad Alsofi in the presence of the Iraqi Ambassador to Italy, Ahmad Bamarni. The delegate of the Archaeology Department, Daniele Morandi Bonacossi and the Deputy Iraqi Ambassador to Italy, Diyar Saaid also attended the meeting. The agreement will include cooperation in teaching and research programmes; the exchange of undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty members, support for specialisation and training activities for doctoral candidates, the exchange of information, study materials and academic publications. De Toni states, "with this agreement the University of Udine strengthens its network of international relations and its capacity to make an impact abroad by setting the stage for a promising scientific and didactic collaboration with Nawroz University and other Iraqi universities. The University of Udine has been active for many years in the Iraqi Kurdistan region via an archaeological mission. This activity is now a driving force for enlarging the scope of collaborations with other disciplines and activities ". Asolfi states, "the collaboration with the University of Udine is very important for a young university like ours. It will improve our academic programs, bring about exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, and professors, and will benefit the research and enable training courses. " (Red)
