(30 March 2017) The Italian Consulate in Basel, in collaboration with AperoAnd and Brunetti Arkitekten celebrated the first edition of the Italian Design Day on March 25th at the Vitra Design Museum designed by Renzo Piano. Introductory remarks were made by the Italian Consul Michele Camerota, including images of the furniture placed in the Chia woods described in Matteo Garrone’s short film “DeLightFul” for Milan’s Salone Mobile opening on April 4th.  This was followed by talks from the architect and designer Claudio Larcher, course leader at NABA in Milan selected by the Foreign Ministry among one hundred ambassadors of Italian design to the world, and the young architect Andrea Salvatore, collaborator of Brunetti Basel architecture firm. Larcher founded “Modoloco Design Workshop” in Milan in 2002. Through a presentation of images, he demonstrates how the media and new technologies allow for the robotic manufacturing of marble and serial.

Camerota went on to highlight the Farnesina’s (Italian Foreign Ministry) growing efforts in supporting Italian design and other sectors that, both directly and indirectly, employs 1 million people in Italy constituting approximately 2.9% of the national GDP and approximately 40% of the global turnover in the sector.
