Agriculture: Emilia-Romagna-Uruguay towards a collaboration agreement

(11 May 2017) Uruguay and Emilia-Romagna have close ties in the context of agriculture. At Macfrut 2017, República Oriental of Uruguay and the Emilia-Romagna Region intend to satisfy the desire to develop - in areas of common interest - a collaboration stemming from the strengthening of fruit and vegetable supply chains through the co-ordination of actions that promote trade and technology as well as study opportunities and the exploration of comparative organisational models, quality standards, certification and product valorisation. This was the focus of a meeting in Rimini between the Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Simona Caselli and the Consul General of Uruguay in Rome, Ernesto Messano De Mello. In recent years, cooperation between areas in Emilia-Romagna and many Latin American areas has grown stronger. This collaboration has increased thanks to joint initiatives and an exchange of experiences during the Expo Milano, 2015. In order to further consolidate relations between the two territories, negotiations have started in order to reach a shared agreement. The future agreement, which will be subject to the respective authorisation procedures of the two parties, aims to promote, foster, and develop mutual cooperation for economic development, employment growth, and social cohesion.
