The orchestra of the Teatro Regio theatre in Turin arrives in Buenos Aires

(26 May 2017) After a lot of success in Europe, Russia, China, Japan, the United States, and Canada, for the first time the Teatro Regio in Turin arrives to Argentina. The Orchestra of the Teatro Regio with Sergey Galaktionov, both a violinist and soloist, will perform its first tour in Latin America on Tuesday, June 6, at 20:30 at Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires. "This new major international invitation for the Regio confirms the attention that numerous musical institutions around the world address to our artistic complexes," reads a note. The Coliseo Theatre, originally built in the 19th century, is now recognised as one of the most important theatres in Buenos Aires. The intense artistic programming offers recitals, concerts, operas, and ballets. Among the great names that stand out at the Coliseo this Season are: Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Andras Schiff, Vadim Repin, Stefano Bollani, and Daniele Rustioni. Sergey Galaktionov, primary violinist of exceptional talent at the Teatro Regio Orchestra and on this occasion also the director, is engaged in two parts for a contemporary and romantic programme. Max Richter, German composer, class 1966, performs "Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons". In this work, completed in 2012, Richter proposes a magnificent exercise in style: using 25% of Vivaldi's famous "The Four Seasons" creates a minimalist and postmodernist discourse that intersects the Baroque with the contemporary. Vivaldi's original melodies are recognisable but looped and resynchronized, as in a DJ set session. Alongside this fascinating experimentation, The Regio Theatre and Galaktionov Orchestra propose a classic of the romantic repertoire: String Sextet Op. 70 "Souvenir de Florence" by Pëtre Il'ič Čajkovskij. The score, completed in 1892, was the souvenir of the composer's happy days in Florence in the company of friends. Reminiscences of the Italian cantabile lyricism emerge in the piece, which the author sincerely admired. This music reflects a remarkably Russian style. (Red)
