Friuli’s post-earthquake reconstruction, a case study for the United States

(June 26 2017) Post-earthquake reconstruction of '76 and integrated water cycle: the experiences carried out in Friuli Venezia Giulia are studied in the United States. The University of Udine will teach them to a group of eight students and two teachers from Ohio State University who will be in Udine from 27 June to 7 July to attend the "Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure in Italy" course organized by the two universities in collaboration with Collegio Uccellis. The training initiative is part of the "Study Abroad" projects that are particularly popular in the States: the course has been proposed by Ohio State University to its students and consists of a pre-travel lecture at the University of Columbus , Followed by two weeks of study abroad in Udine. The course will also be attended by two students from Udine University enrolled in Master Degrees in Environmental and Land Engineering and in Environmental and Energy Engineering. The course's activities will cover topics related to integrated water cycle infrastructures and structural complexes in the seismic zone. For this reason, the US university has chosen as a partner the Udine University because it is located in a territory where many examples of original experiences of the integrated water cycle and in areas where took place successful reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by seismic events. Technical visits are also planned at Cividale del Friuli, to the structures of Poiana Aqueduct; In Venzone and Gemona del Friuli, symbols of post-earthquake reconstruction; To Venice, to visit the Mose, and to Pavia, to the European Center for the Training and Research in Seismic Engineering (Eucentre). In the morning, students, accompanied by teachers, will have the opportunity to observe, detect and evaluate the various differences in the infrastructures they visit, while in the afternoon they will gather to discuss, deepen and elaborate the experiences gained. ABOUT / A REFERENCE POINT

"The initiative - explains the coordinator of the initiative for the University of Udine, Daniele Goi, professor of health and environmental engineering at the Engineering and Architecture Department - was born from the meeting between teachers of the two universities who for years shared the desire to collaborate in the didactic field to compare their own experiences and territorial diversity, involving their curious students to relate to natural and technological differences in civil engineering and environmental engineering". The course, emphasizes Goi, "is an original proposal of collaboration organized by the two universities that aims to become a reference for other initiatives that involve and affect the technological heritage of the civil and environmental area of our territory". In addition to Goi, Eleonora Aneggi and Antonino Morassi, the Department of Engineering and Architecture at Udine University, Linda Weavers and Sezen Halil of Ohio State University collaborated in the organization of "Study abroad".
