Pirandello, Henry IV by Bellocchio for the 150th Anniversary

(August 29, 2017) On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pirandello, the Italian Cultural Institute of Montevideo promotes the screening of the film "Henry IV" by Marco Bellocchio (Italy 1984, with Claudia Cardinale , Leopoldo Trieste, Marcello Mastroianni, Paolo Bonacelli) with subtitles in Spanish. This is a reinterpretation of the pirandellian text in light of the Italian director's involvement in the ranks of antipsychiatry. Removed the tragic vision of the character – played over the years by the likes of Ruggeri and Randone, Ricci and Albertazzi, Jean Vilar and Romolo Valli, to name but a few - Bellocchio Henry IV, entrusted to Marcello Mastroianni, becomes a "screw to cut loose". The story of the man who pretends to be crazy and accepts the imprisonment and finds in the masquerade of the medieval court a shelter from the genuine madness of the healthy and real world, is set by Bellocchio in an "open Sanitarium".
