Books: Agnese Grieco presents

The presentation of the book "Atlas of the sirens" by Agnese Grieco is scheduled for Thursday, March 8th at 19:00 at the Mondolibro bookshop in Berlin. The event - with the patronage of the Italian Institute of Culture in Berlin and the Berlin Com.It.Es - is a chance for the public to meet the author, writer, playwright, theatre director, and translator who divides her time between Italy and Germany. Agnese Grieco published "Per amore. Fedra e Alcesti" (2005) with the publishing house "Il Saggiatore". and "Anatomia di una rivolta, sulla Rote Armee Fraktion" (2010). She has translated, among others, "Origine" (2015) and "Mikado" (2016) by Botho Strauss. "Atlante delle sirene" is a book to browse through and to be enjoyed with all the senses. Prints, paintings, ancient vases,  illuminated manuscripts, poems, fantastic tales, reports of journeys to the ends of the Earth weave the tapestry representing the world of mermaids which abducted transport us to remote and yet very close seas and eras.  From the sirens who tempted Ulysses on his way back to Ithaca to those who captured Henry Hudson and his crew during the journey in the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean, the mermaids dancing among Debussy's pentagrams, to those that appear in the middle of Manhattan in the film Splash - there is no end to the chronicles, the works of art, the anecdotes that Agnese Grieco explores in these pages, showing the innermost sides of each one.
