Galanìas: music and dances<br>celebrate Sardinian culture

(3 October 2018) The show titled "Galanìas" will be held on October 11th at 18:30 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Tokyo featuing music, dances and historical Sardinian films. Galanìas, which in the Sardinian language means beauty and preciousness, is a multimedia show where music and song, dance, theatre and video projections show the various aspects of the culture of Sardinia of which women are the custodians. The female quintet Actores Alidos, led by Valeria Pilia, presents an array of the beauty of Sardinian women's songs, revisited in a polyphonic style. These songs are a tribute to women and recognise their precious social role within the community. Actores Alidos was founded in 1982 as a research theatre group and is recognised by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities as a Professional Company of National Interest. The group soon directed their artistic interest towards cultural anthropology, also deepening the studies of Sardinian music; in particular, the female component develops a specific research on the vast repertoire of female singing. While remaining faithful to the musical and expressive forms typical of Sardinian singing, with an innovative spirit and thanks to the arrangements of the soloist Valeria Pilia, they perform a polyphony of female songs that were traditionally monodical.
