AICS on mission in Africa

Conakry - Until May 7th, the Italian Cooperation System mission in West Africa is underway, specifically in the Republic of Guinea, Ghana, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. Alongside delegation leader Stefano Gatti, Director General for Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marco Riccardo Rusconi, Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, participated in a series of meetings aimed at deepening and enhancing ongoing interventions in the countries of the area. In Guinea, he met with representatives of civil society active in the territory (LVIA, CISV, Sant'Egidio Community, APDAM), visited the DREAM Center, a health project managed by the Sant'Egidio Community, and engaged in discussions with representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The attention towards the Republic of Guinea is evidenced by the willingness to add the country to the list of Italian Cooperation priorities. Italy, starting from bilateral debt cancellation agreements, has stood by Guinea Conakry, and the visit was an opportunity to examine cooperation agreements, deepen the update of aid credit in the health sector, as well as consolidate and further develop agricultural development and food security. Among the institutional meetings was one with the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Agriculture to define the steps for the implementation of the Paguita project, which aims to restore the production system in the regions of Conakry and Kankan in Guinea. The goal is to contribute to the food and nutritional security of the targeted regions, improve the resilience of vulnerable families, increase horticultural productivity, and the incomes of the affected vulnerable groups.
