Cairo - The inauguration ceremony of the "Oasis of Mercy" Shelter took place on Sunday, May 5th, in Cairo. The event was attended by numerous public figures, diplomats, members of the "Child Jesus of Cairo" Association, the Foundation of Human Brotherhood, and guests from the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Jordan, Iraq, and the United States. The "Child Jesus of Cairo" Association and the Egyptian Foundation of Human Brotherhood, whose President is Monsignor Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, are two entities working to convert the principle of brotherhood into acts of solidarity, inspired by the contents of the Document on "Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together," desired by His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, signed by both on February 4th, 2019, in the city of Abu Dhabi. The Document on "Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together" represents the cornerstone of interreligious dialogue as its primary purpose is human brotherhood, to be established first and foremost in relation to other faiths, and then spread throughout the world. A concrete result of the aforementioned document is the "Oasis of Mercy" Shelter. The Shelter will host abandoned children, offering them the opportunity to grow in a family environment, capable of providing them with serenity, affection, and a peaceful and dignified future. The name "Oasis of Mercy" is a sign of gratitude for the gift of a faithful copy of Michelangelo's Pietà statue, which His Holiness Pope Francis wanted to offer to the Association. Within the Oasis of Mercy, a chapel dedicated to Blessed Carlo Acutis has been created. (9colonne)
