A business forum between Italy and Libya by the end of the year

Tripoli - "Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Tripoli yesterday where she met with the President of the Presidential Council Al-Menfi and the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Dabaiba. Prime Minister Meloni was accompanied by the Ministers of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, Health, Orazio Schillaci, and for Sports and Youth, Andrea Abodi. At the end of the meeting, declarations of intent were signed regarding cooperation in university and research, health, sports, and youth within the framework of the Mattei Plan for Africa. President Meloni reiterated the commitment to work with Libya in all areas of common interest through a partnership based on equal footing founded on concrete projects, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. In order to further explore investment opportunities, during the discussion, Prime Minister Meloni and Prime Minister Dabaiba decided to organize an Italian-Libyan business forum by the end of the year. With her counterparts, the Prime Minister also discussed the importance of holding Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections, within the framework of UN mediation that needs to be revitalized. Italy, in this regard, will continue to work to ensure greater unity of purpose within the international community and to promote cooperation between Libya and the European Union. Prime Minister Meloni then visited Benghazi where she met with Marshal Khalifa Haftar, with whom she discussed, among other things, Italian initiatives in the agriculture and health sectors that also concern the Cyrenaica region, as well as reaffirming Italy's willingness to contribute, also through the specific expertise of our private sector, to the reconstruction of Derna, which was hit by a dramatic flood last year, in line with the comprehensive commitment that Italy had immediately undertaken after the tragedy. The aspect of reconstruction, shared also with President Al-Menfi, who wanted to recall Italy's generous commitment. During the mission, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the results achieved by cooperation between the two nations in the field of migration. In this perspective, for Prime Minister Meloni, it remains fundamental to intensify efforts to combat human trafficking, also from a regional perspective, and in line with the specific attention that Italy is devoting to this global challenge during its G7 Presidency." This was announced by Palazzo Chigi. (9colonne)
