Opera meets Pop: Grigolo and Yoncheva take the stage in Bulgaria

Sofia – Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo will perform in Sofia in an extraordinary concert alongside Bulgarian opera star Sonya Yoncheva. Scheduled for August 28 in the square in front of the city’s iconic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the program will include opera arias, popular duets, and even pop songs.
Described by The New York Times as “an arresting, ardent, versatile instrument wielded with passionate effect,” Grigolo has performed on many of the world’s most prestigious stages, from the Royal Opera House in London to the Paris Opera, the Arena di Verona, Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, and Berlin’s Staatsoper. Known for bringing opera closer to younger audiences through innovative performances—such as La Traviata at Zurich Central Station (2008) and L’elisir d’amore at Milan Malpensa Airport (2015)—Grigolo has also collaborated with pop legends. In 2015 he shared the stage with Queen guitarist Brian May at the Arena di Verona, and the following year with Sting at Carnegie Hall. At the end of September he will return to Verona, joining Plácido Domingo and José Carreras to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Luciano Pavarotti’s birth.
