(10 august 2018) The Italian Institute of Culture in Melbourne will host Gilberto Artioli, Professor of mineralogy and crystallography at the University of Padua on August 14th at 18:30 for the 22nd Meeting of the International Mineralogical Association, August 13 to 17. The conference, held in English, will focus on crystallography and material science as fundamental instruments for representing and understanding materials of a different nature, including those that are part of the cultural heritage. Among the objectives of science applied to cultural heritage is the diagnostics, authentication, conservation, and interpretation of human artefacts dating back to antiquity. Invasive and non-invasive techniques applied to cultural heritage materials will be briefly presented, as well as case studies such as the origin of Eneolithic metals and Etruscan numerals.
