“Il cammino dell’Arcangelo” from France to Apulia

(Jun. 6th) - Every step is an emotion, an adventure. Next Monday, on June 11st, Michele Del Giudice will start a fascinating and unusual journey that will take him from France to Apulia. A journey by foot, from the sanctuary of Mont Saint Michel, in Normandy, to Monte Sant'Angelo, in the province of Foggia, which will end on September 29th. Del Giudice, President of the Sezione Club Alpino of Foggia, will follow the ancient path of St. Michael, travelling 2438 km. The path will link the three major shrines of St. Micheal: Mont Saint Michel, Sacra di San Michele and Monte Sant'Angelo. Di Michele wil make 38 stops from the France to Turin, and then other 37 until Rome. With other 26 stages he will finally reach Foggia, after 2438 km. This ambitious challenge will bring Del Giudice to walk through different European countries. "Through the agency Pugliapromozione, Regione Puglia supports and encourages this extraordinary event,” said Silvia Godelli, Regional Minister for the Mediterranean, Culture and Tourism. “This challenge is not just something connected with sports, but it assumes a human and scientific value, because thanks to a GPS Del Giudice it will trace the path of the official Vie Francigene of Apulia." ABOUT THE WALK
The path has been located through researches on historical tours, in particular on the basis of the studies promoted by Prof. Renzo Infante, Professor of History of Christianity at the University of Foggia, with the indispensable support of the "es Chemins de St. Michel" (for the French section) and based on the experiences of modern walkers. The path will follow the Via Francigena in all its extension and will inaugurate the "Via Francigena del Sud", from Rome to Monte Sant'Angelo. The path will be divided in 101 steps, for a total of 2,412 km, and there will be 14 days of rest. The arrival in Apulia is expected for September 29th, day of the feast of St. Michael the Archangel.
