Rome – The prestigious Africa Award for Research Excellence in Space Sciences from the American Geophysical Union has been awarded to Daniel Okoh, a Nigerian scientist and research fellow at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) as part of the Norisk project, coordinated by INGV researcher Claudio Cesaroni. This award celebrates Okoh's contributions to Space Sciences and his pioneering efforts in space weather modeling.
Daniel Okoh’s research focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to space weather modeling, where he is opening new avenues for understanding and predicting space phenomena. The INGV's Norisk project aims to improve knowledge of natural risks associated with Sun-Earth coupling phenomena and reduce their impact through research in the space and geophysical fields. Under Claudio Cesaroni's leadership, the project is making significant strides in the modeling and prediction of space weather phenomena, with important implications for satellite communications, navigation systems, and the power grids in Europe and Africa.
