Eleven Italian women have been selected for the Women's Speed events of the World Cup, scheduled from Wednesday, February 26, to Sunday, March 2, in Kvitfjell, Norway. After two timed training runs, the competition will feature two downhill races and a super-G.
Italy will compete in the Scandinavian venue with Federica Brignone, Sofia Goggia, Marta Bassino, Roberta Melesi, Laura Pirovano, Sara Allemand, Nicol Delago, Elena Curtoni, Nadia Delago, Asja Zenere, and Vicky Bernardi.
Anticipation is high for Brignone's performance, following her back-to-back giant slalom victories last weekend in Sestriere. The Italian star also claimed victory in the super-G on Kvitfjell's renowned Olympiabakken in 2024. The Carabinieri athlete from La Salle currently dominates the overall World Cup standings with 999 points, ahead of Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami (809) and Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic (753).
Brignone also leads the downhill standings with 289 points, holding an advantage over Goggia (260) and Austria’s Cornelia Huetter (208). Eyes will also be on Goggia, who secured second place in downhill in Kvitfjell in 2023.
In the super-G standings, Gut-Behrami is the current leader with 385 points, but Brignone and Goggia are close behind in second (310 points) and third place (246 points), respectively.
