On March 6, the Callas Tribute Prize returns to New York for its fifth edition, celebrating both the legendary opera singer—born 102 years ago—and International Women's Day, which falls just two days later. The event once again strengthens the bond between “Italian culture and Italian culture in America,” as emphasized by Christian Di Sanzo, an Italian MP elected in the America constituency. Di Sanzo has acted as a bridge between Italy and the U.S., promoting the Tribute Prize presentation event held at the Chamber of Deputies on March 3.
Maria Callas, an American of Greek descent who later became an Italian citizen for personal reasons (she was married to Giovanni Battista Meneghini), was herself a bridge between continents and cultures. This year's honorees include renowned artists such as Filippo Arlia, Jo Champa, Aprile Millo, Maria Guleghina, and many more. A special prize will also be awarded to the film Maria, currently showing in Italian theaters and starring Angelina Jolie.
