On March 19 at 7:00 PM, writer Roberto Saviano will be in Hamburg at the Cinema Magazine, invited by the Hamburg House of Literature in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, to present his new novel, Noi due ci apparteniamo. Sesso, amore, violenza, tradimento nella vita dei boss (We Belong to Each Other. Sex, Love, Violence, and Betrayal in the Lives of Mafia Bosses). The book, published by Fuoriscena, has been translated into German by Anna Leube and Wolf Heinrich Leube under the title Treue. Liebe, Begehren und Verrat – die Frauen in der Mafia, and published by Hanser Verlag.
Saviano’s book delves into the gripping stories of women in the mafia, such as Maria Grazia Conte, whose secret child with a mafia boss leads to her downfall, and Vincenzina Marchese, forced into marriage to seal peace between two rival crime families. Then there is Anna Carrino, who takes over her husband's business while he is in prison—until she discovers his secret mistress and decides to break free.
Saviano offers a unique perspective on the fate of women in the male-dominated world of organized crime, revealing how its structures and values shape love and family life.
