Tel Aviv – The Italian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv is celebrating the centenary of Luciano Berio’s birth with two events at the Felicja Blumental International Music Festival. On Friday, March 28, at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art will host the screening of the documentary film Luciano Berio by Reuben Hacker, featuring cinematography by Ron Katznelson and Yoav Kush and musical consultancy by Noam Ben Zeev. The documentary explores the life and work of the Italian composer, focusing on his final masterpiece, Cronaca del Luogo, and his influence on electroacoustic music, collage, and musical practice.
At 3:00 PM, a concert honoring Luciano Berio and Cathy Berberian—two key figures in 20th-century music—will take place at the Elstein Gallery of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Performers include soprano Einat Aronstein and Ensemble Rosemary (Rotem Braten, flute; Itamar Ringel, viola; Marina Fradin, harp), with guest musicians Danny Erdman (clarinet), Iris Jortner (cello), and percussionists Oded Geizhals and Omri Blau.
The program features iconic works by Luciano Berio and pieces dedicated to mezzo-soprano Cathy Berberian, including the Israeli premiere of Naturale, which blends folk songs with instrumental music and authentic Sicilian folk recordings. (9colonne)
