From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
Lisbon – Italian writer Daniele Mencarelli is in Lisbon today and tomorrow to present two of his novels: Brucia l’origine, published by Mondadori in 2024, and the Portuguese translation of Tutto chiede salvezza.
The events are organized by the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in collaboration with Paulinas Editora and Piena – Libri Persone Visioni, an Italian bookstore in Lisbon.
On March 31, Mencarelli will discuss Brucia l’origine at the IIC alongside journalist Marcello Sacco. The novel portrays life in a Roman suburb—an environment that could symbolize any periphery, both in a physical and existential sense. The protagonist struggles with a relentless desire for self-expression and a longing for belonging. The presentation will be followed by a screening of an episode from the Netflix series Tutto chiede salvezza, based on the novel that won Mencarelli the Premio Strega Giovani in 2020. The book has just been published in Portugal under the title Tudo Pede Salvação (Paulinas Editora).
On the morning of April 1, Mencarelli will meet students at Nossa Senhora do Rosário Salesian School in Cascais, where he will engage in a conversation with IIC director Stefano Scaramuzzino. Later that evening, at Colégio São João de Brito, he will present his work in an interview with Professor Maria do Rosário Lupi Bello, founder and director of the cultural center Quarto Quarteto.
