Munich – The vernissage of the photographic exhibition Va’ Sentiero – A Long Look Across 8,000 km will take place tomorrow at 7 PM at the Italian Cultural Institute in Munich. The exhibition offers a unique perspective on Italy’s High Lands, documenting a three-year expedition along the Sentiero Italia, the world's longest trekking route.
Open to the public until June 6 at the IIC, the exhibition draws from the archive of photographer Sara Furlanetto and is curated by Rica Cerbarano, Sara Furlanetto, and Yuri Basilicò. Through Furlanetto’s lens, the exhibition captures the essence of these remote lands and their inhabitants, showcasing both their beauty and decline.
Between 2019 and 2021, the Va’ Sentiero team traveled and documented the entire Sentiero Italia—a red thread stitching together Italy’s High Lands from the Alps to the Apennines, one region at a time. Covering 7,887 kilometers of continuous ascents and descents from Friuli Venezia Giulia to Sardinia, the team encountered an Italy often rooted in rural traditions, untouched by globalization yet struggling with depopulation and the lure of industrialization. At the same time, they witnessed firsthand the effects of climate extremes and abandonment, along with the social, cultural, and economic isolation of these territories. (9colonne)
