Italian Folk finds a new voice in Hong Kong

Hong Kong – The Italian Cultural Institute in Hong Kong has officially launched Folkever – Italian Music Roots in Motion with a concert by the group Migala at the Shouson Theatre of the Hong Kong Arts Centre. The performance, titled Marisciu – Danza del Meriggio, marked the first event of an original project designed to promote Italy’s rich folk heritage in Hong Kong.

Blending the traditional sounds of central and southern Italy with Balkan, Latin, and world music influences, Migala offered an eclectic repertoire that included traditional songs from Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia, and Lazio. The concert bridged tradition and experimentation, evoking the symbolic and musical atmosphere of the “controra” – the languid, sun-drenched early afternoon – through hypnotic rhythms and Mediterranean textures.

Throughout 2025, Folkever will continue to celebrate the depth and vitality of Italian folk music with a series of events that aim to share the soulful, ever-evolving heart of Italian traditions with Hong Kong audiences.
