Brussels – The Hand Surgery Unit (UOC) of Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli IRCCS, led by Lorenzo Rocchi, has received the prestigious accreditation from the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH). This recognition identifies the unit as a center of excellence for hand trauma and replantation.
One of Italy’s largest hand surgery units, Gemelli joins a select group of centers certified by FESSH for outstanding clinical care. Rapid intervention and surgical expertise are critical in severe hand injuries, such as those caused by New Year’s fireworks, significantly improving the chances of full functional recovery.
The European Board of Hand Surgery (EBHS) sets rigorous criteria to determine which hospitals and surgeons qualify as reference centers. The EBHS diploma certifies top-level training and expertise in hand surgery and microsurgery and is awarded only after a highly selective educational and evaluation process recognized by Europe’s leading scientific societies.
