Lisbon – On March 23 at 6:30 PM, the Italian Cultural Institute of Lisbon will host the conference “O Convento de S. Francisco da Cidade 1217–2026” by Eduardo Duarte, as part of the 15th edition of the conference series Luso-Italian Relations – Francesco 800, marking the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. Duarte is Associate Professor and President of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon. The Francesco 800 conference series is organized by Nunziatella Alessandrini (CHAM / NOVA FCSH, Centre for the Humanities of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at NOVA University Lisbon), with the support of the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute of Lisbon, AERPI Association, Hipácia Association, Associação de Desenvolvimento do Carvalhal, the Lisbon Geographical Society, Gabinete de Estudos Olisiponenses, the Museum of Portuguese Decorative Arts, the Church of Our Lady of Loreto, and the Eduardo Brazão Theatre of Bombarral. The Luso-Italian conferences aim to review the most recent research while also opening new avenues of study, focusing on artistic, commercial, economic, and political relations between Portugal and Italy in the medieval and early modern periods, starting from the Italian community in Portugal.
