Chicago – Francesco Sossai’s film “Lowland Cities” will be screened today at 4 p.m. in Chicago at the Music Box Theatre. The film follows the encounter between two middle-aged friends—who swear each drink will be their last—and an introverted architecture student. The two take the young man under their wing during a no-holds-barred drunken journey through the Italian countryside, in a disheveled intergenerational odyssey. The screening, organized by the Chicago Critics Festival and the Music Box Theatre in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, is part of the Moto Continuo Film Showcase, inspired by the theme guiding the Institute’s 2026 program. The selected titles explore the concept of movement through recent works by Italian directors: epic journeys, emotional tensions, and cultural currents intertwine to convey the complexity of the historical and social processes that help define Italian cultural identity.
