Abu Dhabi – The NAAS Film Festival was born from the collaboration among several international cultural institutions in the United Arab Emirates, including the Italian Cultural Institute of Abu Dhabi, the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, and the Embassies of France and Austria, in partnership with Manarat Al Saadiyat. Each year, it brings to the screen independent films addressing relevant social issues, creating spaces for dialogue and exchange. The new edition of the festival opens on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m., focusing on one of the most universal themes: family. The 2026 edition is inspired by the “Year of the Family” promoted by the United Arab Emirates and features a curated selection of international films exploring the diversity, strength, and emotional depth of family bonds. The opening night at Manarat Al Saadiyat will feature the German film “Talking about the Weather” by Annika Pinske, a nuanced portrait examining family relationships, personal ambitions, and the search for a self-determined life. Among the Italian films in the program are “Discesa libera” by Sandro Torella, screening Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m., and “La vita da grandi” by Greta Scarano on June 24. (9colonne)
