Ambassador Giorgio Novello talks about relations between Italy and Norway

(10 November, 2016) The Free University of Bolzano is expecting a special guest. Tomorrow, November 11, “Italy and Norway: the story of an extraordinary collaboration from the Mediterranean to the Arctic” with Ambassador Giorgio Novello. The talk, in the Aula Magna of the Bolzano campus at 17:00 was organised by Professor Francesco Ravazzolo who has been teaching in Bolzano since the academic year 2016/2017 after serving in the research office at the Central Norwegian Bank in Oslo and at he Economics Department of the Business School. Professor Ravazzolo, who invited the Ambassador, connoisseur of Norwegian society and economy, will carry out the interview with Giorgio Novello. In the morning, the Ambassador will be accompanied by Professor Ravazzolo and Günter Schamel (also a faculty member of the Economics Department) while he visits local businesses in the wine industry. The Norwegian and Icelandic markets appreciate Italian wines. The meeting with the Italiam Ambassador could potentially help businesses in Alto Adige in understanding how to improve their sales channels towards Norway and Iceland. In the evening, open to everyone, focuses on the historic relations between Italy and Norway, the social and economic characteristics in Norway with a particular focus on the affinities between the Scandinavian country and Alto Adige. Novello began his career as the Italian Ambassador to Oslo by presenting his credentials to S.M. Re Harald V on September 5 2013 and as Ambassador to Reykjavik presenting his credentials to S.E. President of the Republic, Olafur Ragner Grímson on January 15, 2014. (red)


GIORGIO NOVELLO


Born in Dolo, Venice, Novello started his diplomatic career in 1984. In March of 1986 he enters the Farnesina under the General Directorate for Economic Affairs. In 1989 he was nominated as Second Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria. In 1991 he became First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in London. In 1995 he began working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the General Directorate of Political Affairs, Foreign Policies Desk and European Union Common Security. In 1998 he was nominated as Embassy Councillor of the Italian Embassy in Bonn and Berlin in the following year. In 2002, Giorgio Novello became the First Councillor to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna. In 2006 he is at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the General Directorate for Economic and Multilateral Financial Cooperation as Office Chief for International Financial Organisations. In 2008 he became the Deputy Diplomatic Councillor to the Minister for Economic Development. He is also the Honorary President of Oslo and Stavanger Committees for the Danti Alighieri Society. He is also a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, received in 2004. He also received the Order of Merit of the French Republic in 2013 and in 2016 he became a Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Merit of Norway (Storkors, Den Kongelige Norske Fortjenstorden). He is also the author of various law and historic-political publications and is the co-author of a book on negotiating. Finally, Giorgio Novello has also been a docent in Methodology and Technique in International Relations of the University of Trieste (2005-2008).
