The baton of Gianluca Marcianò from Tbilisi to Beirut

(May 16) The passion for music and travel, the desire for success and to show off his talent and overcome obstacles. Gianluca Marcianò left Italy with enthusiasm "because who really wants to achieve good results and prove himself, sooner or later he decides to leave its country." Today Marcianò is happy and satisfied. He is successful and well-known a conductor said, acclaimed in Europe and in Asia, currently director and principal conductor of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet theatre, in Georgia, and artistic director of the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut, Lebanon. Since its debut at the National Opera of Zagreb, in 2007, Marcianò is increasingly demanded by theaters and orchestras around the world.
"I studied piano at the Florence Music academy. At the same time, I graduated in high school and then I obtained a degree in Political Science from the University of Pisa. So I can say that all my education is 'Made in Italy',"says the young director who has won numerous national and international competitions for young musicians and premiered in recital when he was ten.
"I live abroad since 2002, when I decided to accept a position as assistant conductor at the Opera in Ljubljana. Since then I came back in Italy just as a guest or simple tourist. I travel a lot and I meet so many Italians that stand out for their professionalism and talent. We all share all the feeling that if we were not immigrants, we would not have had the same luck. Of course,” says the Italian musician, “this is a generalization, but unfortunately has very solid foundations."
"The early days were tough,” he admits, “because we Italians have a very low knowledge of foreign languages. Lucky me: now I speak five languages without problems.”
“Italy,” concludes Marcianò, “is still in my heart and I miss it very much but I can always come back as a tourist or just visiting my family. Today there is a real 'brain drain' but I hope that someday things will change."
