Standing ovation for Paolo Olmi and Ymeo in Morocco

Fès - Four thousand people listened to the performance of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater by the Young Musicians European Orchestra, masterfully conducted by Maestro Paolo Olmi, at the 27th Festival Musiques Sacrées du Monde in Fès, Morocco, on May 30. The piece was preceded by a reading of the text in Italian by the director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Carmela Callea, and in Arabic by Prof. Nabil Mada, the translator. "The vast audience that filled the monumental Bab Al Makina complex fully grasped the intensity represented by the text attributed to Jacopone da Todi, particularly the sacrifice of the God-Man for humanity's redemption from sin. For me and my musicians, it was a tremendous emotion, as we are talking about a Catholic prayer, translated into Arabic, listened to and deeply felt by a Muslim audience," commented Maestro Paolo Olmi. Before the concert began, director Callea and the Italian ambassador to Morocco, Armando Barucco, emphasized the importance of the event promoted, within the Festival Musique Sacrées of the Fondation Esprit de Fès, by the Italian National Music Committee, the Italian Cultural Institute of Rabat, and the Italian Embassy, as part of the Suono Italiano project that CIDIM implements worldwide to enhance Italian musical talent. "These initiatives represent a powerful tool for the development and promotion of cultural relations between Italy and Morocco. In recent months, we have strengthened this bond using the music of young artists like those of the Young Musicians European Orchestra as a bridge between two countries and two continents united by a deep love for culture," added Callea. The first three pieces of the evening featured three young Italian talents as soloists: violinist Lodovico Parravicini, mezzo-soprano Maria Lucia Bazza, and soprano Giorgia Costantino. (9colonne)
