Made in Italy / Minister Urso on mission in Eritrea

Asmara - Since yesterday, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, has been on a mission in Eritrea, scheduled to continue until Wednesday, June 26. During his official visit, following recent missions to Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia under the Mattei Plan, Minister Urso met with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and several government ministers: Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Industry, Transport and Telecommunications, and Health, as well as the Commissioner for Culture and Sports. This visit follows President Afwerki's bilateral visit to Rome last January and engagements with the Eritrean government at the Italy-Africa Summit, attended by heads of government and state from many African countries. The mission focuses on various issues related to bilateral relations and Italian companies' activities in sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, port logistics, air transport, renewable energies, mining, textiles, agriculture, and agro-industry. During his mission, Minister Urso is expected to visit the Italian textile company ZaEr-Dolce Vita, the “Casa degli Italiani,” and the photo exhibition “Annulliamo la Distanza – ANLADI.” Urso is accompanied by a delegation of major Italian companies including Enel, Fincantieri, Ferrovie dello Stato, and Bonifiche Ferraresi. The head of telemedicine at the “Agostino Gemelli” Polyclinic is also present to assess new initiatives for the local population. Eritrea and Italy have historically shared strong cultural and political ties: the use of the Italian language remains widespread, and Italian architectural and artistic influences are prominent. Italy ranks as Eritrea's second-largest supplier and the ninth-largest market for Eritrean exports. (9colonne)
