AICS Delegation wraps up mission in Senegal focused on gender support and training

The mission of the AICS Technical Directorate, focusing on gender equality initiatives in Senegal, has concluded. The visit of the delegation from the Technical Directorate also provided an opportunity to meet with various local authorities, including the Secretary General of the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, Ndiougou Diuf. During this visit, they toured the call center for the toll-free number 116, which offers support to women and children who are victims of sexual and gender-based violence, as well as child abuse.

Notably, the mission included the initiation of a training program for police and gendarmerie forces in the Sedhiou Governorate to enhance their ability to safely and sensitively support women who are victims or survivors of violence. Additionally, a dedicated support desk was established at the Sedhiou police station for victims of gender-based violence.

Part of the visit was devoted to hearing testimonies from women who have benefited from training programs and financial grants for starting micro-enterprises aimed at achieving economic independence. Special attention was given to the needs of women with disabilities, with a focus on promoting dialogue with government offices implementing the project about the importance of strengthening actions for the inclusion of people facing dual discrimination due to disability. Needs were assessed from an intersectional perspective, specifically focusing on the needs of women with disabilities. (9colonne)
