Italian contingent delivers essential aid to displaced in Southern Lebanon

Shama – From school supplies for students to clothing for men, women, and children, from hygiene and household products to blankets, pillows, and sheets. These items were donated by the Italian contingent of the UNIFIL mission in Tyre, intended for displaced people from the border areas of southern Lebanon, victims of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has had significant repercussions in the country and in the operational area of the UN "blue helmets." The initiative was launched last May by the municipality of Sant’Antioco, with the support of numerous local volunteer associations and in collaboration with the "Sassari" Brigade, which organized the collection of essential goods to be sent to Lebanese citizens currently caught in an unprecedented economic, social, and humanitarian crisis. "The Italian soldiers have shown they are bearers of a culture of peace and solidarity that has touched the hearts of us Lebanese, demonstrating sincere feelings of brotherhood through their actions," said Hassan Dbouk, mayor of Tyre and president of the Union of Municipalities of the district. The initiative, as General Stefano Messina, commander of the Italian contingent and the western sector of UNIFIL, highlighted, "was born from the desire to prioritize the dignity of people, especially those in particularly difficult situations, forced to abandon their villages due to the devastating effects of clashes that have been ongoing for about a year."
