KFOR Commander cisits Northern Kosovo to assess security condition

The Commander of the Kosovo Force (COM KFOR), Major General Enrico Barduani, conducted a reconnaissance mission along the northern part of the administrative boundary line between Kosovo and Serbia as part of operational efforts to maintain a Safe and Secure Environment. The aim was to personally assess the security conditions on the ground. The Commander had previously carried out a similar mission in the area aboard an aircraft. Surveillance in northern Kosovo is one of KFOR’s key tasks and is carried out through ground patrols as well as the deployment of helicopters and drones. Through deterrence operations, KFOR units play a crucial role in ensuring the security of the area, countering illegal activities, and preventing potential actions that could undermine regional stability. Currently, the KFOR mission includes around 4,300 troops, in addition to some 500 soldiers from NATO’s Operational Reserve Forces (ORF), temporarily deployed to ensure an appropriate posture in the face of unexpected crises. Italy is the leading contributor to the mission, with 1,200 uniformed personnel, and currently holds the leadership of the operation.
