Jan. 1 - Finmeccanica, a partner in the Eurofighter consortium with Alenia Aermacchi, expressed great satisfaction for the new Omani order for 12 Eurofighters. With said order, Oman becomes the 7th global customer of the European aircraft. "The order from Oman is further confirmation of the strategic value of Finmeccanica’s investment in the Eurofighter program and, in general, of the growing importance of European projects in the aerospace and defense sectors," said Giuseppe Orsi, President and CEO of the Italian Group. Eurofighter is a key initiative for the Italian aeronautical industry and Finmeccanica Group companies, who participates in the project at 36%. Alenia Aermacchi is the Italian leading company for the program and it is responsible for the construction of the Eurofighter’s left wing, the rear fuselage with BAE Systems, and the integration of the weapon systems and the navigation and propulsion system. In general, Alenia Aermacchi is responsible for the final assembly of all Italian Air Force aircrafts and those of export customers in the countries of competence.
SELEX ES ALSO INVOLVED
The newly-established Selex ES, a company that brings together the Finmeccanica’s European activities for defense and security electronics, is significantly involved in installing airplanes’ electronic systems. Selex ES is present in three consortia: Euroradar, for the design and construction of aircraft radars, called Captor, and of the new radar scanning electron Captor-E, currently under development; EuroDASS, for the design and realization of DASS subsystems (Defensive Aids Sub-System) to protect the aircraft from radar-guided missile threats; and Eurofirst, for the passive infrared Pirate system.
