From Monday to Friday, BigItalyFocus provides an information overview, ranged from development aid to made in Italy
The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Sydney, presents the cultural programme “Traces of Italy – Legacies of Italians Shaping Australia’s Cultural Landscape”, which explores the legacy and lasting influence of some of the most significant Italian figures who have left their mark on Australia. On 31 July, a lecture will be given by Zeny Edwards, author of the biography “Painting with Stone: The Story of the Melocco Brothers, as Told by Zeny Edwards”. Pietro, Antonio, and Galliano Melocco, three brothers originally from Friuli, are renowned for introducing and refining the art of mosaic in Australia, particularly in New South Wales. Their works grace numerous public and private buildings, including the crypt of St Mary’s Cathedral, the Tasman Map at the State Library of New South Wales, and the Interstate Booking Office at Sydney’s Central Station, as well as various residential buildings and theatres. Struck by the profound impact the Melocco brothers had on Australian art, architectural historian and biographer Zeny Edwards decided to recount their journey in a compelling biography, which she will present during the lecture.
