Photographer Paola Agosti in Lisbon

A meeting with photographer Paola Agosti will take place in Lisbon, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with Piena bookshop and Edições Tinta da China. The event will be held on Friday 22 August at 6:30 p.m. at Piena – libri persone visioni in the Portuguese capital. The occasion will also feature the presentation of the catalogue “Venham mais cinco. O olhar estrangeiro sobre a revolução portuguesa (1974–1975)” by Sérgio Tréfaut, published by Faux and Edições Tinta da China. To attend, booking via email is required: ciao@pienalibreria.com. Curated by Sérgio Tréfaut, the exhibition “Venham mais cinco”, on display until 24 August at the Parque Empresarial da Mutela in Lisbon, features 200 large-format images taken by some of the world’s leading photojournalists. These photographs document the Portuguese Revolution over two years and also cover the independence movements in former colonies — an archive that had remained inaccessible in Portugal for 50 years. Paola Agosti, whose work is represented in the exhibition by seven photographs, will also take part in a guided tour of the show on Saturday 23 August at 5:00 p.m. Registration for the tour is required by 22 August via email at venhammaiscinco1974@gmail.com, until all places are filled. Born in 1947 in Turin, Paola Agosti began her career as an independent photographer in 1969. Her work has taken her across Europe, South America, the United States, and Africa. She has photographed political leaders, cultural figures, and internationally renowned artists. Her work has particularly focused on women’s issues and perspectives. She has also documented the decline of rural life in impoverished regions of Piedmont, the migration of Piedmontese people to Argentina, and key figures of 20th-century European culture, producing several books and exhibitions on these themes.
