Bern – Montalcino’s Caseificio dei Barbi has once again gained international recognition at the 2025 World Cheese Awards, a prestigious competition organized by the UK-based Guild of Fine Food, which this year saw over 5,200 cheeses from 45 countries competing in Bern, Switzerland.
The artisanal dairy earned three awards: a Super Gold for its Cacio alla Presura | Eccellenze di Montalcino, Silver for its aged Pecorino, and Bronze for its extra-aged Pecorino, confirming the international reputation of Barbi’s Montalcino pecorinos. The awards reflect the dairy’s dedication to high-quality production, using carefully selected milk, slow aging, and traditional techniques that respect the rhythms of the land and the rich flavors of Val d’Orcia pastures.
Now in its 37th edition, the World Cheese Awards is the largest competition dedicated solely to cheese. International juries - including master tasters, buyers, affineurs, chefs, and journalists - evaluate products blind, assessing aroma, texture, balance, and regional identity. Only a select few cheeses earn the coveted Super Gold.
With these latest results, Caseificio dei Barbi’s international tally rises to 41 medals in four years: 1 Super Gold, 1 Grand Gold, 19 Gold, 10 Silver, and 10 Bronze, making it one of the most awarded Italian artisanal cheese producers in recent years.
