Dakar – The exhibition Connexions Urbaines will remain on view in Dakar until October 2, bringing together contemporary art, urban culture and digital innovation at the Italian Cultural Institute. Curated by Bonobolabo, an Italian organization internationally recognized for its work at the intersection of art, design and emerging technologies, the exhibition showcases 23 artist-designed skateboards created over more than thirteen years of collaborations with contemporary artists. Set against the backdrop of a city energized by a rapidly evolving urban scene, the project explores the connections between art, skateboarding and contemporary visual culture. It also resonates with the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where skateboarding will take center stage as one of the defining sports of urban culture. The exhibition further engages with major cultural events in the city, including Festigraff, one of West Africa’s leading street art festivals, and Partcours’ Saison Sèche, a key event on Dakar’s contemporary art calendar. Created by prominent figures in the Italian art world, the works transform skateboards into unconventional artistic canvases that blur the boundaries between functional objects and works of art. Through augmented reality technology, visitors can bring the pieces to life using smartphones and tablets, unlocking digital content that enhances the artworks with immersive and interactive experiences. The initiative aims to introduce new audiences—especially younger generations—to contemporary art through an accessible, multidisciplinary language that combines art, sport and technology. (9colonne)
