(Apr. 12) - Yesterday, in Ekaterinburg, the Italian steel-mill engineering company Danieli has signed a contract worth 150 million euros for the supply of equipment to the Russian Group Kamensk Uralsky Metallurgical Works. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Italian Ambassador, Antonio Zanardi Landi, and the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Alexander Misharin. Kamensk Uralsky Metallurgical Works is among the largest local producers of semi-finished aluminum products and will use Danieli's machinery to produce metal sheets for the aviation industry. This important agreement rewards one of the major Italian companies on the Russian territory. Danieli, only a few weeks ago, has signed another contract, worth 500 million euros, with the Government of Serbia for the construction of a metallurgical plant which will produce around 750.000 tons of steel per year by 2015. DANIELI, A CENTURY LONG HISTORY
The Danieli's origins dates back to 1914, when brothers Mario and Timo Danieli founded Angelini Steelworks in Brescia, Italy. It was one of the first Italian companies to use Electric Arc Furnaces in steelmaking. Ever since, the company has gradually expanded by changing from steel production to the manufacture of equipment for the steel industry as well as engineering and supply of turnkey plants. It has been a pioneer in the development of the minimill concept.
Today's production range, with company-owned technology, covers the equipment for the whole steelmaking process cycle, from the treatment of ore and scrap to end product processing. Over 3,400 people operate in the 17 product lines. Main Group companies are located in Italy, Sweden, Germany, USA, UK, Spain, France and The Netherlands. Average turnover is around 1000 million Euro of which over 98% is meant for export. Most of the Group's Companies are undisputed leaders in their fields and started their activities as early as the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. These joint experiences make the Danieli Group renowned as "The Reliable Innovative Team in Steel Industry". Investments in research together with those resulting from prototype plants put into industrial operation at customers' works, account for an average of over 20 million euros per year.
