THE FIFTH EDITION OF THE EUROPEAN PROJECT MEDNIGHT KICKS OFF

Messina - On March 8th, the fifth edition of the "Mediterranean Night of Researchers" or Mednight kicked off, a project financed by the European Union aimed at showing young people and adults the most enjoyable side of science taking place in Mediterranean countries. Mednight, born in 2020 as a consortium consisting of 13 Spanish institutions, counts for this edition the same number of partners but spread throughout the Mediterranean: Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Turkey, Cyprus, and Tunisia, in addition to Belgium, for a total of 8 countries. The University of Messina is the only Italian partner of the project, and for the next two years, it assumes the role of Coordinator of the consortium. There will be multiple activities taking place throughout the year in schools, parks, squares, and beaches, aimed at bringing the general public closer to Mediterranean Science. The aim of the project is to convey to the entire population the concept of Mediterranean Science: a journey through networks of knowledge exchange, common scientific practices, and, by capitalizing on citizens' skills, the enhancement of the figure of female researchers. In 2024, Mednight partners will develop activities with schools and common awareness-raising activities, culminating on September 27th with major events in Messina, Lesbos, Xanthi, Nicosia, Istanbul, Brussels, Monastir, Montpellier, Toulouse, Madrid, Almeria, Orihuela, and Alicante.
