Universities celebrate the first Italo-Tunisian double degree graduations

Tunis - A cooperation agreement between the University of Sassari and the University of Carthage has led to the awarding of Italo-Tunisian double degrees. Recently in Tunis, at the university, the graduation ceremony was held for the first 11 students graduating with a double degree in "Planning and Policies for the City, Environment, and Landscape" from the University of Sassari and in "Urbanism" from the University of Carthage-ENAU (École Nationale d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme de Tunis). The Italo-Tunisian educational project was initiated in 2018 thanks to the presence at the University of Sassari of some Tunisian students who facilitated research contacts with the University of Carthage, particularly with Tunisia's only school of architecture and urban planning, the École Nationale d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme de Tunis. The board of the Urban Planning degree courses at the Department of Architecture Design and Urban Planning launched the international double degree program by signing a five-year cooperation agreement between the two universities in 2020. The shared educational and scientific research modules of the two universities' degree courses focus particularly on the environmental and urban vulnerabilities of Mediterranean cities and territories. These themes were developed by the students through theses investigating various contexts in Sardinia and Tunisia. The exchange of teaching methodologies and territorial content between the professors of the two urban planning schools facilitated numerous research exchanges in both countries: thanks to faculty mobility, many conferences and seminars were developed, both in-person and remotely, allowing students to delve into common issues and understand the differences and similarities between the two cultures. The over 20 students who participated in the double degree program conducted their mobility thanks to the Erasmus+ for Study project under the Key Action 107 International Credit Mobility project, which has supported and will continue to support the international experience of students, staff, and faculty from both universities.
