Sicily meets Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi - Sicily meets Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. The vibrant colors of sunsets, the intense and enveloping light, and the strong hues of nature link these two distant lands with deep cultural ties. The profound influence of Arab culture in Sicily is well known, still present in its dialect and the numerous artistic works left from over 250 years of domination on the largest island in the Mediterranean. In this context, the Italian Cultural Institute of Abu Dhabi presents Aldo Pecoraino, an Italian painter who expresses the intense contrasts and vibrant colors of Sicily, where he was born and lived. "Presenting Pecoraino's painting in the United Arab Emirates, inspired by the subjects and visions of his Sicily, also means rediscovering together the common roots of the Mediterranean. A millennial culture that has embraced distant peoples for centuries but with a shared sensibility," commented the director of the IIC of Abu Dhabi, Susanna Iacona-Salafia. The exhibition features 12 paintings from private collections in the UAE and the Pecoraino family, created by the artist born in Palermo in 1927 and passed away in 2017. The selection includes classic subjects such as trees, distinctive elements of the artist's painting, as well as beached boats, and niche pieces created on various supports like canvas, wood, and cardboard. The exhibition, from June 7 to 10 at the Institute's premises, is not only a retrospective of Pecoraino's artistic journey but also offers a rare opportunity for art enthusiasts to appreciate the diversity of his subjects and the unique techniques he applied during his career. At the inauguration of the exhibition on June 7 at 7 pm, in addition to the director of the IIC, the ambassador Lorenzo Fanara, and the artist's son and grandson, Mario and Aldo Pecoraino Jr., curators of the exhibition, and Giovanni Palmisano, a collector of the artist's works and one of the promoters of the exhibition, will also be present.
