Italy-Saudi Arabia / First meeting on security cooperation

Riyadh - From June 4 to 6, the first technical meeting on security and protection between Italy and Saudi Arabia was held at Europa Hall in Palazzo Cimarra, Rome. This event, following the Minister of the Interior's mission to Riyadh last September, was jointly opened by Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security Prefect Vittorio Pisani, Head of the Department of Firefighters, Public Rescue, and Civil Defense Prefect Renato Franceschelli, Deputy Chief of Police for Coordination Prefect Stefano Gambacurta, and Major General Mohammed Alhabdan, supervisory consultant of the Saudi Minister of the Interior for International Partnership Programs.

Moderated by Prefect Annunziato Vardè, Director of the Coordination Office, the meeting saw participation from the General Commands of the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza, as well as the Central Directorates of the Department of Public Security and the Department of Firefighters. This gathering aimed to initiate a productive dialogue between the two countries and showcase their respective sector excellences.

The three-day event featured intense discussions where experts from both departments exchanged views on relevant issues to strengthen existing security cooperation and explore new possibilities for training and experience exchanges between the institutions involved. The discussions, held in a serene and friendly atmosphere, revealed a clear willingness from both parties to quickly implement mutual cooperation through the development of training and technical-operational initiatives in the security areas of common interest identified during the meetings.
