G7 Development: Middle East crisis and food security take center stage

Pescara – The G7 Development Ministers' meeting has kicked off in Pescara, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The discussions will focus on three main areas: food security and sustainable agri-food systems; sustainable infrastructure and investments; and global health. On today’s agenda is the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, with efforts to coordinate a joint action to ensure humanitarian access to Gaza and Lebanon. In addition to the G7, representatives from Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and international organizations such as UNHCR, UNDP, WFP, IFRC, IFAD, and FAO will be present. At the end of the day, Tajani, along with Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, will host an event focused on using sport as a tool for development, particularly in Africa. On the second day, Tajani will open a session on food security to discuss food systems, climate, water, and child malnutrition, with the participation of Uganda and the African Union. Another session will focus on coffee value chains. Attention will then shift to infrastructure and global investments, with a dedicated session on projects for the African continent. The minister will also chair an event to highlight the contributions of Italian missionaries to sustainable development and education opportunities. The final day will be dedicated to global health, with the participation of GAVI and WHO, along with key players in the healthcare sector, to discuss investments in health infrastructure and improving access and distribution of preventive tools in Africa.
