Telling Africa’s story: Antonella Napoli’s new book between reality and mirages

Rome – On October 25, at 10 a.m., at the headquarters of the National Federation of the Italian Press in Rome, during the event “Narrating Migrations and the African Continent Correctly,” the release of "Africa. The Ancient Continent in 16 Reportages" will be announced. This is the new book by Antonella Napoli, an award-winning journalist and writer who, in 2019, founded and has since directed the magazine Focus on Africa. The book, published by AllAround, celebrates the magazine's first five years, the first Italian editorial initiative entirely dedicated to the African continent. The work presents Africa—or rather, Africas—through sixteen reportages. This book helps readers gain a deep understanding of the ancient continent, in its countless facets, beyond stereotypes and clichés. Antonella Napoli's new work, grounded in her deep familiarity with African realities, offers glimpses into life on this immense and extraordinary continent, which is often described too superficially. A journey into the heart of Africa that you wouldn't expect, and which, as Karen Blixen wrote, is “full of apparitions and mirages, in a sense the true stage of every event." (9colonne)
